BLOODY MARY~EPISODE 5 SEASON 1
| BLOODY MARY~ Written by Ron Milbauer & Terri Hughes Burton Directed by Peter Ellis original airdate 10/11/05 Synopsis: “Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary.” AN incantation uttered during a game of truth or dare unleashes a ghoul who “lives” in mirrors…and kills by gouging out the eyes of her prey. synopsis was pulled from the dvd Review: So you know when you were growing up as a kid and you had all those scary games you use to play at sleep overs? Well if you did then “Bloody Mary” was probably most likely on that list of gaming options. Well the show manages to take that legend and children’s game and make it come to life on the screen. By come to life I mean scare the hell out of you and make be glad that you didn’t have any dark secrets hidden in your closet. This episode is really were I became hooked on the show. They took a basic scare tactic and worked it for all it was worth. My favorite element of this episode easily was the way the evil spirited (Mary) used the mirrors to stalk and attack her victims. The first victim we don’t get any look into how other then their eyes being missing. But then the show takes it one step more and in the next death you see the person that is on deaths door talking to themselves about their secret and how it was wrong. Watching the actors talk to themselves was awesome. But it went to 11 when we get Sam in front of the mirror late in the episode. Mary revealing through his reflection that it was his fault that Jessica was dead. He was having the visions prior to her death for weeks. This opens up all kinds of roads/doors for the show. It now seems to set up some kind of ability or I don’t want to say “shining” type characteristic in Sam. It also hardens the relationship between him and Dean. In the closing frames of the episode he basically tells Dean he won’t tell him his secret. You could see Dean was hurt by the news. This episode just looked fantastic and played out pretty fantastic aswell. Favorite Quotes: mutters …I’m going to hit him in his face I swear.~ Dean on a morgue worker. What did you dream about? lollipops and candy canes…”~ Dean and Sam Do I look like Paris Hilton?~ Dean in Night vision mode Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, ……Bloody Mary. ~ Sam Smash anything that moves. ~Dean to Sam looking at Mary’s mirror. Hey Sam? This is got to be like 600 years bad luck.~Dean on all the mirrors they broke. Fake Identity’s:

Good: The filming/angles of the cameras and attention to detail in this episode were top notch. Sam talking to Sam really was great. Bad: The daughter of the first victim wasn’t working for me. The rest of the cast worked well but she felt out of place. Frightening: I’m from Ohio so this episode is extra scary. MARY! Honestly how many things have a reflection? She could get you anywhere. Coupled with the piano score behind her movements in this episode she really was terrifying. ~~~~ |
