Review:

So you think the internet can’t kill? After our darker more serious episode Supernatural does what it does best. Gives us a not so serious monster of the week episode. I love the episodes that involve Sam and Dean having a good time. This episode includes the fantastic prank war between the two brothers. Watching these two go at each other was priceless. This episode is a lesser episode technically in the canon that is this show. But for me its still one of my favorites. It includes real people pretending to know about ghosts. It shows us how ghost stories get made, and nerds can make you laugh. The monster himself was kind of lame but the overall idea was fun enough to keep the viewer interested in the episode. Its always fun to watch Dean and Sam mock people openly for thinking they have or know what ghosts are.

Synopsis:

Review:

So we finally get into our overall arc of the show. Meg comes back after we see she is evil. This episode starts to shed some real light on how evil she actually really is. Its nice to not have a monster of the week, and more of a move along in the overall goal. Its also fantastic that we got to see the boys re-unit briefly with their dad. Only to realize that they can’t be around him because they become a liability when they are around. The “monster of the week” Incorporated into this episode was also a nice touch. A shadow demon that rips out hearts..I mean come on how cool is that. The special effects and creature creators came up with a fantastic way to have the creature move around and made him one deadly baddie. The boys in this episode are really starting to come into their respective roles and make you really believe they are brothers. This episode was the first time the brothers really took a beating aka didn’t really win. But survival is key for them to continue the work.

Review:

Most dangerous game meets a Rob Zombie film. I guess that would be the best way to describe this episode. We get another episode in a row with no real monster. The monsters again are of the human variety. A hill billy family is bored of hunting animals so they resort to the human variety. A sick family tradition passed down through the generations. Its fantastic watching Dean comment on this group of sicko’s. In this episode Dean gets sloppy and gets caught by the police for using a false identity but the lady cop has lost a family member in the same kind of circumstances, so she agrees to not lock up Dean till after it is over. The family itself is pretty lacking in the acting department said the creepy ass dad with bad teeth. Who plays the busted teeth crazy eyed leader of the group to a T. Seriously why do all crazy family’s that hunt people live in filth? They should take a page out of the most dangerous game. It can be done in style. This one was more Dean centric in the emotions category. Him breaking down about having to find his brother was fantastic. Overall this is a throwaway episode, but it makes for some entertaining laughs. I would have loved to see the hunters actually try and hunt Sam or Dean though.

NIGHTMARE~

Written by Sera Gamble & Raelle Tucker
Directed by Phil Sgriccia
original airdate 2/7/06

Synopsis:

The brothers pose as priests to gather information at a house visited by sudden death - a death Sam saw in a dream. But precognition may be just the start of preternatural powers Sam suddenly possesses.
synopsis was pulled from the dvd

Review:

Our first real look into what is happening to Sam comes in this episode. Along with more overall story arc continuation and history into their mothers death. In this episode they end up not fighting a demon but an abused boy hell bent on using his new found gifts of Telekinesis to avenge his childhood and current terrors. When the boys come a calling looking for a demon/spirit/big evil to kill they take almost the whole episode trying to sort things out. At the same time some how Sam is connected to the deaths. He sees them minutes sometimes hours before they happened. This episode is a fantastic episode for Sam’s character. We get some insight into how he is feeling and at the same time the villain of this episode is almost mirrored to him in some senses of childhood. We also get hard Dean this episode, after his soft relapse from last weeks episode. The tension and deaths in here are actually pretty graphic and I love seeing Dean die but not die. It takes you a minute to let sink in that he really wasn’t shot. Overall this episode wasn’t amazing but the inclusion of an enemy that wasn’t born or pure evil was pretty interesting and the actor that played Max really portrayed the abused child well. Also seeing Dean and Sam differ on taking Max down really showed where both brother was at. Dean doesn’t seem to see shades of gray at all early on this show. If its evil it needs to be put down. But Sam sees shades of gray and wasn’t willing to kill a human.

Review:

The only reason this isn’t the worst episode in the whole show is that there is some Dean dynamics added to the show. That and we get a kick ass Impala vs ghost truck chase sequence. That said this is a pretty silly episode and a very none intriguing monster of the week. Wasn’t to much fright or story to this one. We did get a little look into Dean’s past which was nice. Showing that he isn’t just one big stone wall and can be gotten to. Also introduced one of the hotter female characters in the show. Like I said I don’t really have that much to say about this episode, its pretty much one of the most throwaway episodes out there and it has the pain and sorrow of following up one of the best episodes in the show. Watching it once is enough for any supernatural fans.

FAITH~

original airdate 1/17/06

Synopsis:

Witness the miracle: Faith healer Roy Le Grange cures Dean after an accident leaves him near death. Witness the terror: For every life Le Grange saves, another life must end
synopsis was pulled from the dvd

Review:

This episode starts off with a bang. We are knee deep into a hunt with Sam & Dean. I want to say they are hunting some sort of child eating zombie type creature. But that really isn’t that important. What is important is that while killing the creature Dean accidently electrocutes himself in the process, damaging his heart to the point that he is going to die in just a few short weeks. The exchanges between brothers in this first 10 minutes is fantastic and at the same time hard to watch. Sam finds a long shot to help his brother. I faith healer who heals those that are dying. Dean has no faith that this will work, but is called up right away and healed. All is good up until him and Sam figure out that the healer does really have the ability to give life, but the mastermind behind the whole thing is a reaper. So one must die for another to live. What is key about finding this out is because Dean meets a girl named Layla who has been coming there every day since Roy started hoping to be saved. When the boys find out they have to stop Roy from healing again. But the next person in line to be saved is the girl. It is heart breaking watching Dean struggle with stopping Roy from healing her. They eventually figure out that it isn’t Roy that is evil but his wife who has binded the reaper to do her bidding. But you really can’t fault her at first because she was trying to save her husband Roy from death. But when she went on a vendetta for “god” she started taking peoples lives. This story is fantastic for all kinds of elements to the show. It introduces the boys different takes on Faith. Dean believes in evil but doesn’t really believe in good. Strange I know but he hasn’t seen any good to allow him to believe that way. Sam is a believer and its nice to see them bust heads also. All the actors around this time around were spot on in their performances. I love how this show can not go for the scare factor and be so very effective with an episode.

synopsis was pulled from the dvd

Review:

This episode not only has a kick ass monster, but it tells three stories about the same thing. The story mirrors/plays off each others family issues. We have the towns people that are willing to sacrifice their own for the good of the people. We have Meg arguing with her family at the very end of this episode failing to do what she was suppose to do. Both those approaches to family issues failed. The only one that worked was Sam and Dean’s. At first we had this big conflict that separated the brothers for the first time this season. They know enough about things that go bump in the night. They should know better then to split up. Sam was struggling to follow orders and put peoples lives in front of his own vendetta to find his Father. By the end of the episode through a course of different moments specifically a conversation he had with Meg who us the view at the time was just some hitchhiker, and one phone call where Dean said good luck and good bye. The brothers were fantastic in this episode their acting was top notch. The main story in this was about a new baddie in the world of supernatural. A pagan god that likes to rip skin off of couples once a year in order to keep the town growing in the good life. The towns people were pretty much like the Stepfords and every year like clockwork served up a few outsiders to make it happy. Not this year though because Dean was on the case. Dean working alone isn’t nearly as awesome as the brothers working together, but it makes for some funny moments. His lack of creativity with a cover idea got him exposed. The introduction of meg into the world was pretty awesome. Allowing Sam to connect with someone finally about life only to have it turn out she is not so good and more evil for her own good. Did I mention that the actual scarecrow in this episode was scary?

Review:

This episode had the displeasure of following home sadly. The show flips back to our monster of the week style after last episodes strong arc push. Which in this case isn’t a bad thing. This episode is pretty solid. It takes a basic element of horror an old haunted asylum and works it very well. I thought the tale of this episode was well crafted. It included different spirits but only one that was actually doing harm. The camera work in this episode was spectacular. Only allowing the viewer to see just little bits of the corridors, and rooms up until what ever it is they were hiding was right up on the viewer. This episode normally always gets a few jumps from me. This episode is elevated by the building tension of the brothers. Specifically Sam being frustrated with Dean for not appearing to want to find their dad and always taking his orders. It gets really intense when Sam is turned mad crazy by the mad Dr. Ellicott. He then unleashes some harsh hateful words on his brother. He also shots him with rock salt which is always, always, always amusing to watch. This whole exchange is climaxed with Dean giving Sam a real gun with real bullets and telling him if he hates him that much just to pull the trigger and get it over with. The kicker is that in normal shows and films the guy usually uses some sort of brother family radar and doesn’t go through with it. In this episode Sam not only tries to fire the gun once, but several times after discovering that the gun was actually unloaded. This episode is nothing special but a nice tribute to ghost haunts.

Review:

You know how you follow up a subpar episode? You bring on one of the finest episodes supernatural has ever offered. This episode contains everything one should be looking for in a show. It was well acted, well shot, and the score was just the right amount. I love that they kept the classic rock out of this episode. Normally I would hate that aspect but it really worked for this episode. This episode centers around the boys and their past. Specifically the one place neither really would ever have the desire to return to if they didn’t have to. We get a little more insight into Sam’s new abilities as he dreams of a woman in distress at their own home. Which hadn’t fully burned to the ground. They made a trip home to see if it might be the thing that killed their mother. When they got there though the found out it was just wounds from their mothers killer. A nasty poltergeist was in the house, and it was hell bent on killing the family inside. The poltergeist did its job in getting the boys back home. But that was really the side story to this episode. As the boys went back through the town trying to gather intel on what happened after their own tragedy 22 years ago. The boys wore their emotions on their sleeves this episode. Neither really face to face, but there were multiple times you could really see the pain and sadness in their eyes. It should be credited that the two main leads really did fantastic in this episode. This episode also introduces a side character that sadly I don’t think we get the pleasure of meeting again in our adventures. Missouri was a psychic that assisted them in taking down the spirit. She was hilarious, and at the same time really helped us get a look into the Winchesters as a whole. It was a breath of fresh air to have someone assisting the boys that actually knew what was happening. This episode also gives us our first live look at their father John, if only for a brief few seconds. But it was easily enough to get a feel for his character. I saved the best for last, we had a second spirit in the house the whole time. They came into play early in the episode in fire. Setting up something evil, but by the end Sam knows exactly what or should I say who it is. Their mother Mary had been in the house the whole time trying to protect the family that lived there as best she could. But it wasn’t until the spirit full on attacked Sam that we get our first real look at her. It gave the boys some sense of closure I think. Because I was young when I lost my mother and at that age you really never comprehend your good bye. They got that this time and it was just a fantastic scene to watch as she uttered a few words, specifically “I’m sorry” to Sam. She then tells the house to back off her boys and takes down the poltergeist but at the same time destroying herself. This episode ranks up there with some of the best tv out there.

Good: The acting through and through in this episode was amazing. The way it was shot and scored was movie quality. We get to see both John and Mary which was great. We also get a kind of half Dean and Sam hug. Deans break down on the phone to his father was the first real time we saw Dean broken. Missouri is an amazing character.

Bad: The fact that they tease about seeing Missouri again.

Frightening: Poltergeists are pretty scary, but the scene that did it for me was the garbage disposal part. I already have a fear that it will always turn on on me when my hand is down in it. This episode doesn’t help in that department.

Review:

In the midst of one of the worst episodes the series has to offer. We get this awesome look at Sam’s angst towards his father and family. It makes from great tension between the brothers. While Sam thinks his father pretty much gave up on him and didn’t love him, his brother thinks the exact opposite. When Sam actually goes off about it, Dean counters with telling Sam that his dad came to Stanford to check up on him as often as he could. To make sure he was safe, and that he constantly said he was proud of him. This whole conversation kind of allowed Sam to not worry so much about his father wanting to see him or not. Actually got the boys back on track on finding their father. The episode itself was poorly made. The story wasn’t entertaining or compelling or interesting at all. I dig me a good indian haunt because you are building on our dead souls. But this episode was no poltergeist. It did have the creepy factor because bugs are nasty little critters. I guess this episode could have been worse then what it was, but it was saved by family business. I love how the show does play the victims issues off the boys issues. Like a father and son with issues.

The good, the bad, and the Frightening.

Good: Insight into Sam/Dean/John family issues.

Bad: Not very engaging episodes. The finale with the night only lasting 10 minutes was pretty silly.

Frightening: BUGS! The one spider that crawled out of the ladies head was nasty.
